Multicultural folk dance treasure chest DVDs & cds
(added 8/9/13)

Many moons ago, at a school far, far away, I taught 7th & 8th grade students a quarter long (40 classes) course called Dance 101. Included in the course were dances from all around the world. This resource that you see to your left is awesome. Not only does it include 2 DVDs that show how to perform all the dances (most of them very easy to do), but it also includes the CD tracks as well. My kids LOVED learning the dances from around the world. I think they really bought in when I told them where the dances were from. Most of them would say things like: "Hey, my grandfather is from that country!", or "I know how to speak that country's language!". A great unit in addition to this is a unit on multicultural games. By far one of my favorite units to teach and one of my kids' favorites as well. Click on the button below to order.
mark rothstein's world of rope jumping DVDs
(added 8/9/13)

First, I must tell you that I met Mark when he came to our school for an assembly program. He is, by far, one of the nicest and sincere people you will ever meet. Our kids just loved having him and so did our staff! He performed a very entertaining and educational 45 minute jump rope show that involved the kids and the adults. If you ever have the opportunity to have him at your school, you won't regret it! Now, on to the DVD. Mark gave me this DVD as he left our school after the performance (Thanks again Mark!). The thing I love about this DVD is it's variety of scenes. Basic jumps, intermediate, double dutch, etc...in addition to some great routines and bonus scenes which includes school show highlights, world tour highlights, and an Old School Workout. His DVDs are great and only $10 on his online store. Click the button below to go directly to his website.
adventure to fitness DVDs
(added 8/9/13)

I first came in contact with this company through an email I received from my Physical Education Coordinator in Andover (Brain McNally). In the company's words they are "Inspiring kids to lead healthy lifestyles through imagination, education, and movement." Through their website you can stream videos that are mainly intended to get kids moving in a classroom setting (You know, they've been sitting too long and need a movement break). I immediately thought about using them in my P.E. classes as well. Most of the videos are close to 30 minutes in length and take the kids through adventures in a most interesting way. Students jump over obstacles, run through alligator pits, and dodge dinosaurs just to name a few. I project the videos on a big screen in my gym which is connected to a sound system for a great overall movement experience! The reason I include this company under the DVD section is because you can order DVDs of the programs as well. It's nice to have them just in case your Wifi is down or you do not have Wifi in the gym. I play the DVDs as a warmup for 10 minutes and then stop it at a very climactic moment. I then play the next 10 minutes the next day. I then finish the DVD on day three. My kids LOVE these and always go "awwwww" when I stop them. Click on the "Adventure To Fitness" button below to go to their website. Remember: "Never Stop Moving!"
